Your First Visit to our Gaithersburg, MD Office

Before your first visit to our office, we will need your dental history. Please send us the contact details for your prior office so we can receive your records. You will also need your payment and insurance information for your appointment.

Your first visit to our office begins with a dental cleaning. Our dental hygienists use specialized dental tools to remove bacterial buildup from the teeth and gums.

Plaque is a sticky bacterial film that can lead to problems like tooth decay and gum disease if left in the mouth. Over time, plaque can harden to form tartar and calculus. It can be difficult to remove bacteria buildup at home, so regular cleanings are important.

Our hygienists may need to perform scaling and root planing treatments if they find signs of gum inflammation. During scaling treatment, we clean on and beneath the gum tissue. Root planing removes plaque from the tooth roots and helps the roots reattach to the gums.

After your cleaning, Dr. Stan Nova will examine your smile. They will screen for oral cancer and periodontitis. Signs of oral cancer can include white or red patches in the mouth as well as chronic mouth sores. Symptoms of gum disease include red, bleeding, and inflamed gums.

We will also take CBCT scans or digital x-rays to keep track of your oral health at routine visits. We can see the teeth, gums, and jaw with this technology. They allow us to see problems that cannot be seen with the naked eye and diagnose and treat patients.

New Dental Patient Q&A

If you’re a new patient and have general questions about our office, read answers to these commonly asked questions:

Does your office accept new dental patients?

New patients are welcome to make an appointment on our website or call our dental office at (240) 226-1482

How often should I visit the dentist?

We recommend that patients visit our office biannually or twice a year. Biannual appointments include a dental cleaning and exam. Often, we will take dental x-rays to keep track of patients’ oral health.

When should I schedule my child’s first dental visit?

Parents should bring their children to their first dental visit after their baby teeth emerge. Typically, we recommend parents bring their children once they turn one year old. Pediatric dental appointments are important to prevent cavities, one of the leading dental problems in children. In addition, scheduling these early visits helps children get accustomed to the dentist. Regular visits can alleviate dental fear or anxiety and encourage healthy habits.

Do you accept dental insurance?

Yes, we participate with major PPOs. We accept Aetna, CF BCBS Dental Preferred, Cigna, Delta Dental, GEHA-Connectional Dental, Guardian, MetLife PDP, Principal Life Ins., United Healthcare, and United Concordia/Tricare. Dental insurance typically covers the majority of general and restorative care.
